ROUTE

Your route Adelaide to Perth

Adelaide to Perth

  • Day 1 – Flinders Ranges National Park
Heading north, the bus stops for a quick coffee in Clare before continuing on to the rugged gorges and red gums of the Flinders Ranges. Stroll along Alligator Gorge (there are no crocodiles but keep an eye out for snakes), then continue to Quorn, home of the Pichi Richi Railway, for lunch. You’ll camp the first night in Warren Gorge under the stars of the Southern Cross. Explore the beautiful Warren Gorge in the Flinders Ranges. Here you’ll have the chance to see the yellow-footed rock wallabies, almost wiped out by introduced feral cats and dogs. You will be traveling a total of approximately 400 km (4 hours) on this day, including stops along the way. The camp for this night will be set up in the bush and there are no sanitary facilities.
  • Day 2 – Coodile Park and the Eyre Peninsula
The Eyre Peninsula is one of the great mysteries only just being discovered by mankind and when you see it, it will leave you speechless! Get your camera ready for the Big Galah, an eight-metre-tall fiberglass sculpture that watches over the souvenir store in the tiny town of Kimba. After a quick stop for lunch, continue on the road to Venus Bay, the Talia Caves and the Lake Newland sand dunes. Adrenaline junkies can put their sandboarding skills to the test there. In the afternoon, you head for Coodile Park for the night, where you settle down on a working farm, which also serves as your home base. That evening, you will share your dinner and many stories from other tours with the other travelers, who will all sleep in one of the super cool swag huts. Shower and sanitary facilities are also available there. Today you will be on the road for approx. 450 km (5 hours).
  • Day 3 – Baird Bay & Fowlers Bay (swim with sea lions & dolphins)
Just down the road from Coodile Park lies Baird Bay, an area famous for its watery wildlife. In the morning you have the option to swim, snorkel and splash with playful sea lions and dolphins on a 3-hour boat tour. This exclusive adventure is run by Baird Bay Eco Tours and is an optional experience and for just $200 you can make this unforgettable dream come true. After a picnic on the beach, you’ll continue your journey along the coast to the secluded camping spot at Fowlers Bay. Today’s journey takes around 5 hours and ends at Fowlers Bay, where sanitary facilities are once again available.
  • Day 4 – The Great Australian Bight
Days don’t get more Australian than this. Not only will you cross the 5,320km dingo fence in the morning, you’ll also get the chance for a snap or two of the famous wombats, emu, camel road signs on the Nulabor and you’ll stop at the Bunda Cliffs to see where Australia literally falls into the ocean. In the afternoon, you’ll cross the border into Western Australia where tonight’s free entertainment is kindly provided by the sky globe. On this day you will be on the road for about 7 hours with stops. The night camp will be set up in the bush without sanitary facilities.
  • Day 5 – Esperance & Cape Le Grand National Park
With their planetary-sounding names and littered with space debris, the two small towns of Balladonia and Norseman exude a slightly intergalactic atmosphere. Balladonia gained worldwide fame when the Skylab space station abruptly returned to Earth here in 1979. After lunch, the journey continues to Esperance, which after five days in the desert seems like a humming metropolis. Your journey today will take around 7 hours, including breaks and stops. Camp is set up in the spectacular Cape Le Grand National Park, where you will again find shower facilities.
  • Day 6 – Cape Le Grand National Park
Crystal-clear water, white powder sand, sweeping granite cliffs… and sunbathing kangaroos? If you want to start the day with an early morning walk on the beach, don’t be surprised to see a kangaroo or two hanging out on Cape Le Grand’s stunning beach – they know what’s good for them. How you choose to spend your day here is entirely up to you: go on a bushwalk along the coast, take a dip in the water, handle your camera gear or just sit back and enjoy the day with your new friends on the beach. You will only be in the car for about 10 minutes on this day and the hikes vary between 2-4 hours. Overnight stay is in the same camp including showers.
  • Day 7 – Cape Le Grand National Park & Stirling Ranges
Start the day with a hike to Frenchman’s Peak, where you have a view over the entire Cape Le Grand and the Recherche Archipelago. Locals estimate that Frenchman’s Peak was named after the shape of French hats, but this is rather doubtful. Recharge your batteries with a lunch stop at Lucky Bay and make yourself comfortable for the onward journey to Stirling Ranges Camp. The drive today takes about 4 hours, the hikes about 2 hours. You will camp on a private site where you will find toilets and showers. There are also limited cell phone charging facilities.
  • Day 8 – Stirling Ranges
Today is a day to have your camera ready and your finger on the shutter. Traveling on Western Australia’s answer to Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, you’ll be treated to magnificent views of sun-bleached boulders, turquoise seas and dramatic red cliffs sculpted by eons of crashing waves and rolling tides. From the coast, your path takes you into the forest and into the Valley of the Giants for a treetop walk almost 60 meters above the ground. With all the stops, it’s just over 5 hours from Lucky to the Stirling Ranges. Today’s swag spot is a regular campsite, with all its perks.
  • Day 9 – South West Coast
The Diamond Tree, a 50-metre-high karri tree that used to serve as a fire lookout, is your first stop of the day. Climb the lookout with the handy help of a spiral staircase attached to the trunk. Returning to the coast, your journey continues to the Margret River region, known for its local delicacies and world-class red wine. Today you will be on the road again for around 5 hours in total. As yesterday, you camp at a campsite with showers, toilets and limited cell phone charging facilities.
  • Day 10 – Margret River to Perth
On the last day of your trip, wake up to the familiar chatter of kookaburras and cockatoos before heading along the coastal road to Perth. Explore the Ngilgil Caves and their underground world and get a different perspective on local culture by meeting some of the area’s Aboriginal people. A final stretch of road will then take you to Perth. The drive on this day takes approximately 5 hours. Please make sure you have booked your accommodation in Perth before departure. After the tour, it is customary for the group to meet again for dinner and review the trip. Food and drinks are at your own expense.
