Cape Tribulation Day Tour – Active Tropics Explorer

Day tour to Cape Tribulation, where the reef meets the rainforest

Description

HIGHLIGHTS

The highlights of your tour

Your adventurous Cape Tribulation day tour with Active Tropics Explorer begins with a panoramic drive along the coast north of Cairns, past Port Douglas and through the small town of Mossman towards the Daintree National Park. The experienced guides will introduce you to the breathtaking diversity you will see as you immerse yourself in the 130 million year old rainforest. The first stop is at Mossman Gorge “Wurrumbu” where you will meet the traditional owners of the land you will be exploring. Here you will take part in a traditional welcome ritual and an incense ceremony accompanied by a member of the kuku yalanji tribe. Afterwards, a short breakfast stop (at your own expense) is planned before continuing to Mossman Gorge for a refreshing swim in the waterfalls and majestic pools that make Mossman Gorge such an iconic place. Continue north, on the other side of the river, where the road narrows and you’ll drive through some of the oldest rainforest in the world. The trained guides will give you detailed information about the rainforest during the 45-minute guided tour on the Marrdja Boardwalk. You will be overwhelmed by the biodiversity present, from the low-growing ferns and shrubs to the massive rainforest treetops and mangrove forest ecosystems, all of which you will discover on the short walk. After a short drive further north, you’ll reach the famous Cape Tribulation Beach, where you can sit back, dip your toes in the sand and watch the waves. There you can enjoy a great lunch followed by a walk along the beach. On our way back, there is the option (time permitting) to stop at the Floravilla Biodynamic Ice Cream Company, where you can get at least 26 exotic and traditional ice cream flavors. Afterwards, you’ll get the chance to take some great photos at the Alexandra Range Lookout before boarding the Wildlife River Cruise. This is a great way to look out for crocodiles and other wildlife as you learn more about the fragile ecosystem of the Daintree Rainforest. The scenic drive then continues through the majestic beach village of Port Douglas. If there is enough time, you will make a short stop at the Rex lookout point (optional). After this eventful day in tropical North Queensland, you will return to Cairns at around 19:00.
