ROUTE

Fraser Island Tour

  • Day 1:
Leaving Pippies Beachhouse promptly at 7am, our Fraser Island Tours begins with a 20-minute ferry ride from Inskip Point to Fraser Island. Ride in awe up the first part of the 75-mile beach to Eurong. We then head inland to Lake McKenzie. Arrive at Lake McKenzie and immerse yourself in this incredibly pure, clear water. Words don’t do this amazing lake justice. Head to Central Station for lunch and a walk along the waters of the very special Wanggoolba Creek. Learn about the history of Fraser Island in a time before this beautiful island was protected. We then head back to the 75-mile beach and Pippies Camp. Relax after a long day. Time for dinner! Barbecue together with your new Fraser troop and spend the night together around the campfire or under the covered seating area.
  • Day 2:
Get an early start (hangovers are no excuse!) and enjoy a simple, light breakfast of toast and cereal before hopping back in the car to head further north.
At Champagne Pools, witness the stunning waves crashing into the natural rock pools and creating the bubbling ‘champagne’. Then back to the cars for a short drive to our next destination.
Climb the stunning Indian Head (one of the few rock formations on the island) to observe the amazing marine wildlife that can be seen off Fraser Island. If luck is on our side, we can usually spot humpback whales (August – October), sharks, sea turtles, dolphins, giant rays and many schools of tropical fish. Next we head back to Pippies Camp for lunch and then on to our next location.
A short drive down the beach is the largest river; Eli Creek. Take a walk on the boardwalk with a rubber ring and float down these calm waters. Eli Creek pumps up to 4 million liters of fresh water into the sea every hour! The penultimate site of the day is just a short drive from Eli Creek and Pippies’ Fraser Island Tours camp. the Maheno shipwreck. As the sun sets in the sky, watch the rusty wreck against the ocean sky and the incredible colored sand that can be seen on the shoreline.
Finally, a quick stop at The Pinnacles on the way back to Pippies Camp. Seen from the beach, this sand formation is a great example of the colored sand that can be seen all along the Fraser Coast.
Back at Pippies Camp to take a breather after a fantastic day, wash away the sand in the fantastic block of amenities just a short walk from our campsite …… then more food! As part of our Fraser troop, we cook spaghetti bolognese along with garlic bread, followed by another night of socializing under some of the most spectacular stars in the southern hemisphere.
  • Day 3:
Wake up for the last day in paradise! Another quick and easy breakfast before heading to the final location of our Fraser Island tour.
Drive a moderate distance down Eastern Beach to the entrance of Lake Wabby. Here we will hike for about 40-45 minutes on a beautiful sandy trail through the bush and out onto Hammerstone Sandblow. Lake Wabby is just a short walk along the sandblow and is the deepest lake on Fraser Island. So be sure to take a dip and relax on its shores next.
After our lunch on the beach, it’s time to make our way back to the ferry and Rainbow Beach. But not without chasing the mysterious Eugarie and learning the meaning of our name: Pippies!
You will be back at Pippies Beachhouse in Rainbow Beach between 13:00 and 16:30 (depending on the tides).
Here you can optionally book a night in the shared room Pippies Beachhouse (double and single rooms on request).
*Please note that itineraries are subject to change depending on beach conditions and tides.
