HIGHLIGHTS
The highlights of your Fraser Island tour
Drive along the beach and camp on the island – just like a real Australian. This Fraser Island tour will be the trip of a lifetime. You’ll ride in a like-minded group in a convoy and explore the island, exploring the freshwater lakes and driving through the rainforest in a four-wheel drive vehicle. Sometimes you get stuck in the sand. Then it’s time to get out of the car and push off. This really is one of the most fun things you’ll do on the coast. The guide will show you the best spots on Fraser Island and you will take turns driving. The island is very big so it’s worth planning 3 days to see it all. Your Fraser Island tour starts with a briefing at Dingos Bar in Rainbow Beach, 20 Spectrum Street at 4:30pm the day before departure. Attendance at the pre-tour briefing is mandatory and you will receive information to prepare you for this exciting trip. You will be divided into groups and you will have the opportunity to borrow a sleeping bag and organize any special dietary requirements. You will also be taught how to drive safely on Fraser Island and your big adventure.
ROUTE
Your way Fraser Island Tour
- Day 1:
You start the tour with a morning introduction at the Dingo Resort, where the following topics are covered: Proper loading of the cars, equipment check and a Dingo’s safety and driver briefing. At 9:30 am you will then set off for Fraser Island. After a short drive of about 10 minutes, you will board the ferry, which will take you to Fraser Island within a few minutes. Once you’ve reached the largest sand island in the world, it’s about an hour’s drive along 75 Mile Beach to Eurong Resort… Fraser Island’s own highway with a speed limit! Once there, you can treat yourself to a coffee and a croissant (at your own expense) for morning tea. This is where your big adventure begins… you drive to the famous Lake Mc Kenzie, probably the most famous and picturesque highlight on Fraser Island! You’ll stop there for lunch and have some free time to jump into the incredibly clear water with your new friends. At around 3 p.m., you’ll continue along the beach to the camp. An early dinner and well-deserved cool drinks await you there in the evening. - Day 2:
After getting up, you’ll have a small breakfast before starting your most eventful day on Fraser Island. The tour takes you to Eli Creek, a crystal-clear creek perfect for a relaxing swim. Heading north, you’ll stop at the Maheno shipwreck for a few photos and a quick history lesson about this Fraser Island icon. Shortly after, you’ll drive up to Indian Head, the highest point on the island. If you’re lucky, you might spot whales or sharks in the sea from there, before continuing on to the Champagne Pools for a dip in the cool water. Lunch is served either at the Maheno shipwreck or at the Champagne Pools, depending on how the groups are progressing that day. In the afternoon, you will then head back to camp for dinner and more drinks. - Day 3:
Start the day with breakfast before everyone cleans up camp and packs up. The drive then takes you to the start of the Lake Wabby Walk, where you walk through sand dunes to a piece of tropical paradise. After returning from Lake Wabby, lunch awaits you and then you’ll make your way back to the ferry. Back on the mainland, you will return to the 4WD garage where the vehicles will be unloaded and cleaned. You will be back at Dingos Resort between 15:00 – 16:00. *The daily schedule can change constantly due to the tides and the weather.
